School Gardens

Wow!  Lots of big plans for the school’s Gardens this year.

We have plans for three gardens:  the main (playground) garden, the sensory garden (in the toddler playground) and a flower garden outside George’s office.

This spring, the Main Garden will mostly be growing lots of Asian vegetables to mirror the school’s curriculum-wide study of Asia.  For the most part, these vegetables are quick-growing, cool-weather-loving greens suitable for stir-fries and salads and soups.

This summer, the Main Garden will morph into our Salsa, Pickles and Pizza Sauce garden!  Many warm-loving vegetables like cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and corn will be grown at this time.

This fall (but starting as early as this April) the Main Garden will study Europe and Australia.  Long-season vegetables like winter squash, pumpkins, leeks and potatoes will be grown.  We will still have some holdovers from the Spring and Summer gardens to harvest and eat at this time too.
